The County Government of Bungoma has launched the distribution of free farm inputs to 22,500 vulnerable farmers across the county in a major push to boost agricultural production and strengthen household food security.

The programme, which kicked off at Namwacha Primary School in West Sangโ€™alo Ward, will see 500 farmers from each of the countyโ€™s 45 wards receive certified farm inputs to support the current planting season.

Under the initiative, every beneficiary will receive 10 kilograms of certified maize seeds, 50 kilograms of planting fertilizer, and 50 kilograms of top-dressing fertilizer.

Speaking during the launch, Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka said the initiative forms part of the county administrationโ€™s strategy to empower farmers and enhance food security.

โ€œAgriculture remains the backbone of our countyโ€™s economy. Through this initiative, we are supporting our farmers with quality inputs to enable them increase production and ensure food security for their families and the entire county,โ€ said Governor Lusaka.

He urged the beneficiaries to make proper use of the farm inputs to improve productivity, warning against selling the supplies.

โ€œI urge all beneficiaries to utilize these inputs for their intended purpose. Do not sell them. Let us take advantage of this support to improve our farms and secure food for our communities,โ€ he added.

County officials said the exercise is part of a broader agricultural support programme by the Bungoma County Government aimed at cushioning vulnerable farmers and promoting sustainable farming practices across the region.
